HAWERA TENNIS CLUB

SEASON OFFICIALLY OPENED

MANY VISITORS IN ATTENDANCE

Although overcast the weather remained fine and mild in Hawera this afternoon with a light northerly breeze for the offiical opening of the Hawera Lawn Tennis Club’s 1933-34 season. There was a very large attendance of members and visitors, the majority of kindred clubs throughout South ’Taranaki being well represented. The club was commended on its fine appointments and the excellent condition of the courts, which had responded remarkably well to the expert treatment they had received in preparation for the summer season. A,s in former years the official opening took the form of a Yankee tournament, which was in progress up to the time the late edition of the “Hawera Star” went to press. At the afternoon tea adjournment good wishes for tihe success of the season were expressed and the courts were declared open for play.
