WOMEN’S DIVISION MEETS. (From Our Own Correspondent). The usual monthly meeting of the Maniitahi branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the hall on Tuesday afternoon when there has again a large attendance of members. The- president, Mrs L. It. Hamilton, occupied the chair. Mesdames Hamilton, -C. Barclay and Mias. M. O’Sullivan were appointed delegates to the next meeting of the provincial executive.. There wa.s considerable d|isleui=ision on the arrangements for the children’s Christmas tree, which the division is organising this year. It was decided to follow the system used by Mr and Mrs Barclay when they organised the function in previous years. Mesdames C. and W. Barclay were appointed to purchase the gifts. Miss Eileen Harvie was the winner of an amusing competition drawn up by Mrs H. Southcome, who also donated the prize. Arrangements for the exhibits for the Hawera show were finalised at the meeting. Hostesses for the day were Mesdames D. Schwas,s, H. Southcombe, W. Smart and A. Smart. The final meeting for the year will be held on the second Tuesday in December at the home of the president.
TENNIS CLUB ANNUAL MEETING
Thcjro wits a good attendance at th-ci annual meeting of the Mamitalii Tennis Club, iield in the library on Wednesday evening. Mr ]>. M. Jillctt occupied the chair. The annual report stated that a happy but uneventful season had been enjoyed, few club games having been possible owing to the small number of men members. The court was in good order for the opening of the season, the only requirement being a new net.
The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £1 16s.
The report and balance-sheet- were, adopted and i't was decided to fix the subscription at the same rate as last year. The official opening will be held on Saturday, November 11. It was decided to make arrangements for the cutting and marking ofthe court during the season and to make on effort to establish a fund for the laying down of new courts. After some discussion, it was decided to hold a “back to childhood” dance at an early date and to arrange other functions later in the season. The. following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mr. Hugh McCarty (re-elected); club cap tain. Miss AI. •'Cnluer: secretary and treasurer. Miss Ethel Pander; committoe. Miss M. O’Sullivan, Messrs W. Barclay, D. M. Jillett and officers. GENERAL AND PERSONAL. The children are showing keen interest in the club competitions this yeajf. The mangold I'.rops are at present being planted, and the calf judging has been arranged for the 1 afternoon of -December 5. Air T. Blackburn. Wanganui, was a recent visitor to Manutahi. Mr end Mrs Bov -Fitzgerald. TJvenui, were the guests of Airs I). M. Jillett last week end. Mrs and Miss Jones, Waikanne, are visiting Manutahi. Miss Ida, Muggoridgo is visiting Mrs A. B. Muggoridgo. Air J. B. Hogg, agricultural instructor. rcccntlv visited the school. Mrs A. Thomson is the guest of Mrs Barker. Awatuna.
