PROFIT ON YEAR’S WORKING
CHAIRM AN; AND' DIRECTORS CONGRAT ELATED
Mr C. D. Dickie presided at the annual meeting of the Pa,tea Farmers’ Co-operative Freezing Company on Monday. The chairman reported that although supplies of stock had been rather less than m previous seasons a small profit had been made and the prespeets for the forthcoming season were exceedingly good. The annual report stated that the directors had pleasure in reporting a small credit balance on the year’s working of £1142 3s 3d. The buildings, plant and machinery had been maintained in thorough working order. Additions to the plant included a new pump and pipe line for extra water supply and mechanical chains for slaughtering sheep and lambs under the new system adopted in most freezing works. The works yvere capable of handling efficiently all stock offering in the district. The company thanked those shareholders and farmers yvlio supported the works yvith their stock during the season, either by sale direct to the company or having stock frozen on their own account for sale in London. The company had made excellent arrangements for the coining sea son and yvas in a position to purchase stock at ruling schedule prices. All facilities yvere available to fanners to freeze and ship their stock to tlib United Kingdom, and arrangements had been made for advances if desired. As a measure of convenience the company considered it desirable to alter the balance date to September 30 instead of July 31 as at present. The directors to retire by rotation yvere Messrs B. O. Lysaght, A. E. Symes and A. T. Wills, yvho yvere each eligible for re-election.
The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report said that competition was keen —probably as keen as in any part of the world. The works had been kept open so that farmers could freeze stock on their own ’account if they desired. He thanked supporting farmers and the staff. Staff changes had taken place, Air A. N. Williams having resigned to take an appointment 'with the California Casing Company, Air G. P. Pettigrew succeeding him as secretary. Air C. Alasters had been placed in charge of the slaughtering board and Air S. Alcßae would be buyer. Air A. T. Christiansen in supporting the motion stated that the small surplus was a large one in comparison with those of previous years. He congratulated the chairman and directors and hoped that the present year would be more successful. There was no doubt that the farmer was in for a better time, he said. The retiring directors were re-elect-ed and Alessrs AValkley and Laurence were appointed auditors. It was resolved that subsequent general meetings should be held at such time and pla-ee within thi-ee calendar monthsi after the annual balance date in each year as the directors might appoint, and that the annual balance date be September 30.
