AIR MAIL SERVICE
LONDON-NEW ZEALAND MAY TAKE ONLY 16 DAYS. G OVERNMENT CONTRIBTTTES £SOOO. (By TeiegrapU—Press Association., WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. The fact that the air mail service bettveen Sydney and London to which the Neyv " Zealand Government lias agreed to contribute £SOOO, may take only- 16 days instead of 18 days as previously announced, yvas mentioned by the Postmaster-General, the Hon. Adam Hamilton, in an interview tonight. Mr Hamilton also said the publishde that fcorrenpowdence forwarded to England by a Matson steamer and nown across America plight reach London in 21 days if a quick connection with an Atlantic steamer were made yvas correct. The air route across America yvas little used, however, for Neyv Zealand correspondence, and those yvlio desired to make use of the Matson liner appeared to forget that it- yvas very heavily subsidised by the American Government to compete with British vessels.
Mr Hamilton said assuming the connections yvould be good a three-day trip across the Tasman could be expected by air—thus a 16-dav mail service to London. “Any suggestion that yvo should represent the need for a, faster air service between Fin gland and Australia might readily bring the rejoinder that usually the person yy-Wo pays least makes the most noise,” the Minister said. “Apparently the relative smallness of our contribution toward the service is not realised.”
