DINGHY IN ROUGH SEA LAUNCH GIVES* ASSISTANCE WHITTANGA, Oct. 31. A south-westerly gale yesterday afternoon caused the dinghy of ,*i local fisherman, Mr George Gardiner, to break the anchor line, the boat drifting against.the tide down the river. Hastily ootaining a flat-bottomed boat, Mr Gardiner rowed three-quarters of the way across the river, which is about 500yds wide, in a rough sea. Securing his dinghy, which was m danger of being blown on the rocks, Mr Gardiner attempted to tow it bade. Mr C. Turner, in the launch Colorado, seeing his plight, hurried to his rescue and took both dinghies in tow. Mr Gardiner, who is about 70 years of age. was. almost exhausted with his efforts and was brought safely ashore, feeling the strain considerably. However, he is now none the worse for his experience.
