MEANS OF PRESERVATION
LONDON CONFERENCE HELD. (United Preaa Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) Received 2.30 p.m. to-day. LONDON, Oct. 31. Fourteen countries were represented at an international conference to consider means of preserving and protecting the flora and fauna of Africa. Lord Plymouth, UndeT-Secretary for the Colonies, emphasised the need of new methods to control indiscriminate destruction of wild life. Lord Onslow detailed some, articles in a draft convention prepared by the British Government, with special reference to the constitution of national parks and reserves. The English speaking representative of Ethiopia, a picturesque figure, intends to deal with motor car hunters who dash about shooting herds and scattering them. It will be more difficult to legislate regarding the modern peril of aircraft, the noise of which scares wild beasts, causing much damage. Professional big game hunters, poachers and amateur sportsmen threaten the gradual extinction of Africa’s wild game, it was declared.
