PRICES REMAIN FIRM. DEMAND FOR QUALITY. (United Urcss Association— By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) SYDNEY, Sept. 27. Of the 13,000 bales offered at the wool sales to-day 11,520 were sold. All better classes of fleece wools and good skirtings were very firm under strong competition. Inferior wools and short’~carbon:sing descriptions met with restricted demand and the market for them was weaker. The outstanding feature was the demand for comebacks and crossbreds, prices for finer sorts displaying a. hardening tendency with other grades firm at late rates! Greasy merino made 21 fd a lb for seven bales from Curlewis.

SUGGESTION TO AUSTRALIA LONDON, Sept. 27. Speaking to the Chamber of Commerce, Sir Frederic Aykroyd urged that pressure should made upon the Australian Government to get a larger quantity of wool sent to London so that if Japan wanted to buy it would be obliged to do so in London and pav the additional, freights. The chairman, Mr Suddarts, said the problem of Japanese competition should be dealt with now instead ot when it had further developed.
