LONDON, Sept. 27. ,An Air Force ’plane returning from the naval manoeuvres in Scotland yesterday crashed in Northumberland and the two occupants were burned to cVath, despite a consort landing a crew and attempting to drag the victims from the blazing wreckage. The incinerated occupants of the bomber are Flying-Officer Norman Meyriclt Styohe, whose relatives live at Melbourne, and Aircraftsman M. White. Partly burned parachutes nearby suggest that Styohe and White attempted to jump for their lives. Twelve other machines returning from the manoeuvres were forced down at, South Shields, while one crashed while landing and was wrecked. The occupants jumped out and were uninjured. Nine machines later continued the journey but were compelled to turn and land near Newcastle-on-Tyne after perilous lew flying. The Air Force had its most anxious night since the Great War, its unremitting search failing to reveal a trace of the missing bombers.
