TRIBUTES TO MRS. McCOMBS. (By Telegraph Press Association.j WELLINGTON, Sept. 27. Representatives of over 50 women’s organisations extended a .reception to Mrs. E. R. McCbmbs, the first New Zealand woman to become a member of Parliament. -The function was very largely attended. The speakers included Mrs. Mary Richmond (the first woman to sit on a public body in New Zealand), Mrs. MeVicar, J.P. (who is a member of the Wellington Hospital Board), Mrs. Peter Fraser and Miss MagiH (the first woman president of the New- Zealand Educational Institute). Replying, Mrs. McCbmbs said her election, if it had clone nothing else, had fixed attention on the fact that it was possible for women to sit in Parliament, which was itself a step forward, die had received over a thousand letters from women of every shade of political opinion and every religious denomination congratulating her on her achievement.
