FURRED SKIN SALE

OLEARIANCE AT WELLINGTON. 1 The New Zealand Loan and; Mercantile Agency Company Ltd., Hawera, reports that at the sixth furred, skin sale of the season at Wellington on September 15 there was a _ full bench of buyers and keen competition ruled. Opossum skin® were in good demand, greys- being slightly better thaßf darks 'and, although supers- and first did. not make the price anticipated, second® and thirds -sold particularly well, thus keeping the averages up. The majority of the offering was. sold at auction and the major portion of pas-sed in lots by private treaty after the sale j at prices which, taken on an average. J were most -satisfactory. Two-thirds of the catalogue were offered as trappers’'

Super olues in the catalogue realised up to i4s 6d, super greys 13s, super blacks 13s, and super browns 9s 2d. Consignments from Hawera were sold as trappers’ lots and sales were recorded of 136 at Bs, 70 at 7s 4d, 1-3 at 7s Id, and 54 at ss. Although this was the final opossum sale listed for this season, consignments could still be handled at this centre and sold in conjunction with the rabbit skin sales. These sales were held fortnightly and buyers who attended were also buyers of opossum skins.
