PASSING OF PIONEER
NOTED MARLBOROUGH LADY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ' BLENHEIM, Sept. 24. The death occurred this morning of Mrs. Jane Evans O’Dwyer, aged 86 years, a daughter of Mr. T. J. Thompson, one of the surveyors concerned in events which led to the Wairau massacre in June, 1843, and widow of the late James O’Dwyer, a Spring Cheek farmer who arrived at Nelson with his people in 1842. He died in 1904 and Mrs. O’Dwyer resided since at Blenheim.
Mrs O’Dwyer was noted for the extent of her information concerning old Marlborough and Nelson history and possessed many interesting relics of the pioneering days. Surviving relatives are Messrs H. P. Thompson Moutere, Nelson), T. K., E. S., and F. M. Thompson (Auckland), Y. Thompson (Ivaitaia), and Mrs. L. H. Slieat Blenheim).
