ALTON.

CARNIVAL QUEEN DANCE. Last week a very successful oldtime dance was held in the Alton Hall for the local candidate of the Patea Queen Carnival. During the evening the Mayor of Patea, Mr Ramsbottom, outlined the objects of the forthcoming Queen Carnival. , Mr L. Hunt, chairman of the Alton committee, formally introduced littlo Miss Diana Davies, popularly known as Bai, as the candidate chosen to represent the Alton, Hurleyville, Ivakaramea and Manutalii districts. Airs F. Amon had made an attractive assortment of paper hats and these were sold to augment the funds. In connection with these hats a competition was held and Airs E. Hunt won the ladies’ prize and Air Tipping the men’s. The spot Valeta waltz was won by Airs Hurley and Mr Walker. The colours chosen for the. Alton, Hurleyville, Ivakaramea and Alanutahi candidate are blue and gold,
