ORANGES FROM AUSTRALIA PERMIT FOR IMPORTATION. SCHEME OF RESTRICTION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.\ WELLINGTON, Aug. 25. ‘The Government’s decision, to allow •the importation of oranges from South Australia under quantitative restriction was announced by the lit. Hon. J. G. Coates to-day. He said the Govern- ; ment was satisfied with the action i taken to ensure that adequate 'supplies of citrus fruit would be avail able to the public. Since the embargo was imposed on Australian fruit the Government had completed negotiations with the United States of America, as a. result of which that country would now allow the introduction of New Zealand! fruit, and the Government had been advised by the United States authorities that the importation of fruit into New Zealand from South Australia, where Mediterranean fly did not exist, would not prejudice the entry of Now Zealand fruit into America.

Arrangements had been made with the Australian Government to regulate the quantities shipped 1 from South Australia and the position would be subject to periodic review. The.first shipment of three thousand Cases of oranges will arrive at Bluff by the Waikouaiti to-morrow.
