TOWN BOARD,

RATES STRUCK FOR YEAR. (From 'Our Own Coiirespundeinlt.) At the monthly meeting of the Normamby Town Board o.n Tuesday evening there were present: Gmlrs. C. <T. Preston (chairman), C. J. Leydo.il', T. Lloyd and W. J. Taylor. Prior to the co-mmeneeme'nlt of business a vote of sympathy was accorded the relatives of the late Messrs R. J. Limn and Roy Hayward, members standing in silence. The ranger (Mr 0. W. Harding) reported having impounded one cow during the month and halving registered am additional dog, while there was another dog unregistered, the ownership being in dispute. The foreman (Mr D. Henderson.) reported that during the month, with the exception of two days at the cemetery, all work had been 1 carried out on the southern portion of Ngaro.nga Road, which had been graded, and watertables formed from Egmont Street, to Oliangai Road: Unemployed labour had been comeont.rated upon' this work.

A deputation of ratepayers waited upon the board in respect of outstanding rates, satisfactory arrangements being made in each case. A complaint was received of a horse being tethered across a footpath at night. It was decided to notify the offender that this practice must, cease.

The .clerk was instructed to. interview the board’s soiic.iitpr in the matter of the merger pet It ion at present under consideration. On Wednesday evening tlic Nor man - by School held its ominual concert. Which proved most successful in every ■way. There was a. large afteimdainiee, the' seating accommodation being overtaxed. During the function the Rev. J. A.. F. Watson, chairman' of the school committee, thanked all who had' attended alnd assisted in. the success of the evening ,and particularly jthanked the headmaster, staff and the pupils foT the excellent display provided'. . Mr T. Taylor, headmaster, replied, stating that whatever had been achieved was the result of team worn, an'd he thanked his Staff for their efforts and also the mothers of the children who had provided and. made the nnmieuaUs costumes used ini the various performances. Presentations of bouquets were made by Ruth Henderson, Eunice King and Eildeu Valentine to: Mtes K. Syms, Miss P. Galnmaway and Miss J..
