FLYER WOODS AT CROYDON
WORLD’S UN LUCKIEST PILOT. ARRIVAL COMPLETE SURPRISE. . (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) LONDON, Aug. IS. A complete absence *of cheering crowds, only a few officials, greeted Jimmy Woods, described as the world 's unluckiest airman,- when he landed at Croydon last night. His arrival was u complete surprise as he lias not reported since he left Karachi on Julv 23. It is now stated Mr Woods damaged the undercarriage while taking off from Bundcrabbas on July 24. He eventually left on August 11. To-day he flew from Italy against headwinds and rain storms and arrived in the darkness so fatigued that he refused interviews and immediately went to •bed.
Mr Woods told the surprised Croydon officials: “My name is Woods; I have just flown from Australia. You have no idea what it is like to get the fresh air of Europe after being bashed about by monsoons, siroccos and all the vile winds of the middle East. I left Bundembbas on Thursday and have battled against every wind and form of nature since.”
