TOTAL APPROXIMATELY £33,000. Sixty-one applications for work estimated to cost £32,768 have been received at the office of the Labour Department. New Plymouth, under the Unemployment Board’s building subsidy scheme. The estimated labour cost for the proposed work is £9179, the subsidy on which varies according, to the nature of the work.

Of the 61 applications, 34 have already been approved and four refused. The remaining 23 are still under consideration. while nine jobs approved are actually undei way. At a rough estimate, taken on the basis of the 33 1-3 per cent, subsidy allowed on the total labour cost and making some allowance for the fact that for new dwellings not exceeding £659 total buihlinrr cost the subsidy is 50 per cent. ,t would seem that New Plymouth’s subsidy total, to date on the whole of the applications exeeed £3OOO.
