EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH
MOVEMENT IN NEW ZEALAND. CARNEGIE ENDOWMENT LIKELY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., June 9. Support for the scheme to promote a: Council of Educational Research in New Zealand was, sought in a letter received by the Massey College Council from Messrs Rae (principal of the Auckland Teachers’ Training College), Milner (president of the Secondary Schools’ Association), and Professor Hunter (Vice-Chancellor of the University of New Zealand). The Massey College Council gave the- proposal its hearty approval and signified its readiness to co-operate. Some years ago, it was stated in the letter, the Carnegie Corporation, New York, founded in Australia with a substantial financial endowment a council or educational research. It had been suggested to the corporation that a similar organisation might be established in New Zealand with advantage bo education, and a committee consisting of three gentlemen had been set _if+ to report on the project. A point of great importance to members of the corporation was that there should be clear evidence from educationists, and that educational authorities throughout the country were prepared to give such a scheme their whole-hearted support and offer facilities for any research that might be instituted and financed by the council. It was to be clearly understood that the committee was but making a preliminary investigation, and bv setting up a committee the corporation had not in any way committed itself to the foundation of a research council. Tliat would be decided upon when the corporation had received its committee’s report.
