FRENCH CABINET REVERSE
DECISION TO RESIGN TAXATION PLANS REJECTED. ECONOMY SCHEME OPPOSED. (.United Press Assojiaiton- By Electric Telegraph Uopyngtiuj PARIS, Jan. 28. The French Government was defeated by 390 votes to 193 votes on its Budget proposals and has decided to resign. In face of the Senate’s ultimatum that it would refuse to consider the Budget on Saturday unless it were passed by 4 o’clock in the afternoon, the. Chamber of Deputies sat continuously and approved 149 articles by 2 o’clock, when an adjournment was taken till 3.30 p.m. Then a motion of confidence in the Government’s fiscal taxation was carried bv: 337 votes to 271.
The defeat came at 6 o’clock, when the Socialists, gingered by the civil servants’ clamour against wages cuts, solidly opposed a 5 per cent reduction and an increase in income tax, despite an impassioned appeal made by the Prime Minister (M. Paul Boncour). The Government resigned an hour later.
