(From Our Own Correspondent). CRICKET CLUB BALL. For the annual ball of the dpiifihke Cricket Club the Town Hail was crowded with a company that included vistors from various parts of the province, the attendance., being estimated at three hundred. The joint secretaries (Messrs H. ,G'. Gundy and B. S. Dudley) with, the committee, iiad spared no effort in the preiiminary arrangements' and the result “of tlieir good work' was backed by the support and assistance givem by the people of the district. The hail vvas artistically ■ decorated with- coloured streamers hung from a. dome in the centre oi the hall, in a scheme that included the club colours. ’ The committees responsible for the arrangements were Mesdames Jenkin, Griffin and Clare, Dr. Griffin, Messrs Griffin, Dudley, Clare (2), MeTavish, Cundy and Beaumont. The stage- was also decorated with pungas- and. greenery. The ladies decorated the supper room with Mrs. Jenkin as convenor. Mr C. Maindonald acted as M.C. and the dance music was supplied by Wills’ Orchestra. _ Extras 1. were-' played by Mrs Malcolm and Mrs.. J. T. Hooker.

Keen competition was shown in the West Coast waltzing..contest, -couples from all parts of the district entering. The judge, Mr. J. A. G. Cosgrove, of Manaia, was given great difficulty...in/ making his awards. After a final con- ’. test he gave first prize to Mr-. W. Mowatt and Miss Kearns and.. second place to Mr. Thompson and partner. The prizes, miniature cups, were presented by Dr. Griffin, president of the club.

TENNIS.

In recent games played at the Opunake Tennis Club’s courts ’ for the Moron Shield, Opunake A defeated Opunake B by 15 sets to one. Details are as follows:
