WEDDING

DOUGLAS—WASHER. St. Mary’s Church, Hawera, was crowded last evening on the occasion of the wedding of Miss. Sybil Priscilla, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles 11. Washer, of Scott Road, Inaha, to Mr Neil L. Douglas, son of Mrs L. Thomson, of Dunedin. Friends of the bride had artistically decorated the. church. The Rev. H. Whitby James, vicar of the church, officiated, and the service was choral, members of the church choir singing the hymns “The voice that breathed o’er Eden” and “Father, before Thy throne of light” and the Psalm “God be merciful unto us and bless us.” Mr Herbert Webb, the church organist, plhyed voluntaries befitting the occasion and at the conclusion Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March. ’ ’

The bride looked charming in a dress of angel’s skin lace, made on Empire lines.. The train, was of the same m.v. terial. She. wore a. plain tulle veil, caught up at the head with the orthodox spray of orange blossoms. She carried a"pretty bouquet of white flowers. roses and begonias and gyipsophila:. The bridesmaids were Miss Mbllv Washer, sister of the bride, Miss Marjory Brewer, of Waverley, and Miss Eileen Eaton, of New Plymouth, They were all dressed in eerni organdie, finished with a. kilting of the same material. They carried dark brown baskets of deep orange marigolds. Gold net cans, worn on one side of the head, were set off with real marigolds and ATontbretia. The best man was Mr Robert Greenslade, of Dunedin, and the groomsmen were Messrs Tom Penn (Stratford) and „ Pat Ool.eman, (Hawera). The ushers were Messrs Peter Hawken (Wanganui)’ and Duncan Young (Stratford). Mrs Washer, the mother of the bride, was gowned in burgundy lace, with blafek sailor hat, finished off with ostrich plumes, and carried a bouquet of pink and dark red geraniums. Mrs Thomson was dressed in pink floral georgette, with a fawn hat. .Miss McDonald, aunt of the bride, wore a Princess Mary bloom dress, with black chipped straw hat, and carried _ a bouquet of blue delphinium and pink carnations.

The reception was held at. the Rewa Rooms and the time-honoured toasts were proposed and honoured. The toast of the happy couple was proposed by the Rev. Whitby James and' the response was given by Mr Douglas. Mr W. McL’Dowie proposed the health of the bride’s parents and the Rev. C. Eaton the health of the bridegroom’s mother, the responses being given by Mr Washer and Ala- Stuart Thomson.

A number of the guests later visited the home in Scott Road.

The happv> couple left on the honeymoon trip bv oar. the bride’s travelling dress being pink diagonal striped burgundy fcrepe de chine, with coatee and silver buttons, and hat to tone.
