The concluding stages of the North Island and Wairarapa Association tennis championships were reached today. Results were: Men’s doubles. —Semi-final: Hawkesworth and C. Pearce (Otago) beat A. Court and Barrel- (Canterbury), 6 —l, o—l. Men’s singles.—Fourth round : Lowry (Hawke’s Bay) beat Barrel- (Canterbury), 6—3, 2 —6, 7—5; Malfroy beat Ferkins (Wellington), o—3,0 —3, 6 — 2. Men’s singles.—Semi-final: Court (Hawke’s Bay) beat Coombe (Manawatu), 6—4, 5—7, 6—2. The game between Court and Coombe resolved itself into a hard baseline struggle. Court had the measure of his opponent in the third set. Ladies’ singles . Miss Howell (Hawke’s Bay) defeated Miss Bell (Wellington), 6 —3, 6 —-3; Miss Whyte (Wellington) beat Miss N. Rutherford (Manawatu), 6 —3, 3—6, 7 —5.
