SOUTH TARANAKI CHAMPIONSHIP

OKA! AW A: DEFEATS KAPONGA

Thanks largely to a remarkable innings of 126, secured in 55 minutes by S. Matangi, Okaiawa, won the final of the cricket championship for primary schools in South Taranaki from Kapoii.ga yesterday oil the latter’s ground. The wicket was in good order and the weather conditions were perfect.

Okaiawa .scored 156 in (.'lie first innings and dismissed Kaponga in the latter’« two periods at the wicket for an aggregate of 124, Okaiawa thus winning by an innings and 32 runs. Matangi lnt in meteoric fashion. In liis century were no less than six .sixes and 14 fours.

The Okaiawa howlers, too, were on the spot and F. and 11.. Katene dismissed most of the Kaponga- batsmen cheaply. The ladies of Kaponga hospitably entertained the teams and supporters at afternoon tea.

The victory maintains the excellent record made by Okaiawa in past years.
