STOLEN BAGS RETURNED
SCHOOL EXAMINATION PAPERS. HOTEL THIEF SENT TO GAOL. (By Telegraph—Press Association). DANNEVIRKE, Nov. 23. The proficiency examination papers at one of the D'annevirke primary schools had an unusual experience yesterday, being stolen from the rooms of an hotel occupied by the inspectors, Messrs McCaskill and Bissell, by a relief worker from a camp who said he wanted money. Two attache cases containing the examination papers were stolen and subsequently left in a. shop in another part of the town. They were being returned to the hotel when Mr. Bissell arrived on the scene and, recognising his property, secured it after a struggle. He endeavoured to take the man downstairs, but had to leave him to get assistance. The .thief made a getaway by the fire escape, but was intercepted by the licensee and handed to the police. r l lie examination papers were recovered intact.
For the thefts Richard Reeves was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on each of the two charges.
