VALUES AT SMITHFTELD MARKET

Thanks to the restriction scheme, prices at Smith field market continue to harden, all imported- mutton, lamb and frozen beef averaging a penny per pound higher. Australian lamb, unsaleable a. few weeks ago, lias, pariiculaly benefited, and is now 1)4 above the price then nominally quoted. Sales are on approximately the same scale as before the Governmental action.
New Zealand and Australia- have agreed to reduce by 10 per cent, their shipments to - Britain of mutton and lamb for November and December. The Argentine exporters have agreed to a 20 per cent, reduction in their mutton and -in chilled beef. At the same time that these arrangements- were made negotiations were in progress with Scandinavian countries to secure an immediate reduction in bacon and ham imports to Britain by 20 per cent.
