Dr. R. J. It. Mecredy, medical officer of health for the Taranaki Education district, is at Hanmer on sick leave-.

Mr. F. A. Bruce, who has been for 4$ years an assistant at the Central school, New Plymouth, has been appointed assistant at the Opunake District High School. Mr. T. Rabone, who has been in cnarge of the construction work at Arapuni since the inception of the scheme, over nine years ago, has been transferred to the Auckland office oi the Public AA’orks Department. Air. D. G. Maxehbanks, who has been assistant to Mr. Rabone for the last two years, will assume control at Arapuni. Mr. Rabone will leave Arapuni m three weeks. The death occurred at New Plymouth yesterday of- Mr. AVilliam Moon, one oF the first white * children to be born in Taranaki. He was 87 years of age. Mr. Moon soon after his 87th birthday underwent an operation from which he never fully recovered. His parents arrived at Now Plymouth by the Blenheim in 1842 and lived in a two-storey house in Belt Road, near the sea. Mr.' Moon became a stonemason and worked on the old kerbing in Devon Street and the wall bounding the Bank of Australasia. He leaves a family of seven, Mckdames Stevens (Sydney), F. Moore (Feilding), C. Crutch (Hawera), A. Buekman (Pio Pio), S. Barnes (New Plymouth) and M. Julian (New Plymouth) and Mr. AV. Moon fHimterville).

Mr. J. C. Barclay, of Okaiawa, who recently was elected to the Taranaki Education Board in succession to the late Mr. A. Lees, took his seat at the board table yesterday for the first occasion In extending him a welcome Mr. J. A. Valentine (deputy-chairman) remarked that the new member was following a man whose career on the board was full of honour, and one who had been exceedingly helpful to the hoard. From, the interest he had shown in education in the past Mr. Barclay had already given proof of his willingness to render assistance. The board was one of the most harmonious public bodies in New Zealand. Mr. Barclay said he considered it a great honour to have been elected a member of the board, which could be assured of his whole-hearted support and co-operation.
