HAWERA CLl’B PLAT. Yesterday saw the conclusion of the contest between teams of the Hawera Golf Club selected by President and Captain, the former winning in the aggregate by fifteen matches to eight, three being halved. The results of the two days’ play were as follows, the president’s team mentioned first:—Whitehead lost to Pease, Morpeth beat O’Callaglian, Baigent beat Lewes; Jones, lost to Grace; J. N. Anderson beat Hay-Mac-kenzie; D. C. Ryan beat Tennent; Ycale beat McKenzie; Rowe beat G. IT. Ryan; Wylds lost to Yinniconibc; Ritchie lost to Lawn; Robinson beat Gibson; Jordan halved with Harrison; Kerr beat Slater; McDonald beat Stott; McCarthy halved with W. O. Williams; Findlay lost to Lendrum; Simpson beat White; Turner lost to McAnerin; Tonks boat McWilliams; A. E. Tarrant beat Hollis; Sutton beat Blair; Cullen beat Batchelor; Muir beat Nyberg; R. W. Stewart halved with Harrop; Shaw iost to Horsburgh; L. B. Stewart lost to Westawav.

Following the traditional custom tlie victors were entertained by the losers, the function being held at the White Hart. Hotel last evening. The courses at the dinner provided by "mine host,” Mr J. N. Anderson, featured "Too Shot,” "Spoon,” "Niblick,” "Full Drive,” "No. .1 Iron.” "Masliie,” " Approaching Clock,” "Stymies,” and "Nineteenth.” This list of dishes was necessary, said the compiler of the menu, because "such and so varied are the tastes of men.” A short toast list was honoured. After "The King” had been toasted, "the winning side” and "the vanquished side” were honoured by the respective leaders. "The vanquished side” was in the hands of Mr F. W. Sutton, with response by Mr W. G. Walkley. "That awful game” was given in humorous vein by Mr P. O. Ycale and the response by Mr M. R. Jones. "The ladies” was given and received with much enthusiasm, the proposer being Mr R. C. Hay-Mac-kenzie, with replies by Messrs IT. Slater and A. W. Lawn. Included on the menu card were "interviews” with the respective champions. Pease, Tennent, White, McCarthy and Simpson, while some news of local interest and view's of noted contemporaries were added.
