UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF

CONCERT IN AID OF FUNDS. EXCELLENT PROGRAMME PRESENTED. There was a fair attendance last night in the Presbyterian Hall when a concert, arranged by Mr. Charles Lamb, under the auspices of the Hawera. Unemployment Committee was presented in aid of relief funds. The. performers presented a nicely varied programme and all were given an enthusiastic reception. The items were as follow: Piano solo, “Sonata Pathetique” (Beethoven), Miss Lord; song, “Nirvana,” Mr A Galloway; recitation, “Christmas at Sea,” Miss Wliitelock; cello solos, “Aria” (Tenaglia) and Sohubert’is “Serenade,” Mr. W. S. Gibson; song, “Flight of Ages,” Misti 'A. Dunn; song, “Oberon,” Mr. J. Hay; song, “By the Pale Moon,” Miss E. Murdoch; recitation, “The Rural Postman”, Mr. D. McCormick; vocal duet, “Venetian Song”, Miss Dunn and Mr Lamb; song, “The Floral Dance”, Air. .J. Hay; song, “The River Running By,” Miss Dunn; vocal duet, “The Twins,” Messrs. Lamb and Galloway; recitation, “Red Riding Hood,” Miss Wliitelock. Mr. C. L. Rowe was the accompanist. A very interesting section of the programme was the exhibition of “mystery art” by Kamo]a, who held the* close attention of his audience til the time he was on the stage. The exhibition included (card tricks, the snake illusion, the mat from Madagascar, the boxing chocolates, the N.Z. ensign and Union Jacks, the tie and collar, all of which were cleverly clone and completely mystified the audience. Kamola’s was a popular number and he was given a cordial reception. At the conclusion Mr. H. A. Morgan, chairman of the Unemployment Committee, thanked the audience and the performers and the organiser (Mr C. Lamb, for their kindly help and the Press for valued ipublicty, 'also St. John’s church for the use of the hall.
