In the , inaugural programme of. the Madison Garden Corporation’s new outdoor arena Strangler Lewis won the so-called catch-as-catch-can world’s heavyweight wrestling championship, throwing Dick Shikat, the ■German, with a headlock after one hour six minutes. Twenty-five thousand people witnessed the contest. The arena was built to accommodate 80,069 and will be used for the Jack Sharkey-Max Schmeling heavyweight championship prize fight on June 21.
