OLYMPIC STADIUMS

ARRANGEMENTS FOR GAMES TEN YEARS OF PREPARATION AMPLE ACCOMMODATION. The stadiums, auditoriums and watercourses where the competitions will be held during the Olympic Games represent more than ten years of active preparation on the part of Los Angeles and the organising committee. Four of them are in Olympic Park, ; which is close to the downtown business and hotel district of Los Angeles; this will be the centre of activity dur- ■ iii'T the games. The other stadiums are' conveniently located around Los ! Angeles. In Olympic Park are Olympic ; Stadium, the Los Angeles Swimming j , Stadium, the State Armory (Fencing, Pavilion )and the Los Angeles County i Museum (Olympic Fine Arts Museum), j , * The Olympic Stadium has a reserved ' seating capacity for 105,000 persons. Construction was started on it m 1921 ; and it was first opened to the_ public - in 1923 with a seating capacity of 80 000. Two years ago the stadium was enlarged to its present size and 1 now workmen are busily engaged m r erecting the Olympic Torch, the score 3 board, the Tribune of Honour and ' many other Olympic installations The Los Angeles Swimming Stadium 1 is being built by the City of Los An- > S eles adjacent to the Olympic Stadium. It was designed and is being built in ' strict conformity with Olympic re--1 qiiirement-s. The pool is 50 metres J > denth from 1.5 to 5 metres. The water ' will he from the fresh water supply of * the Citv of Los Angeles. The stadium, ‘ of reinforced concrete, contains dress- ! ino- rooms, office®, club rooms and • lounges under the grandstands which f have a seating capacity of 1000. The State Armory (Olympic fencing , pavilion) is of concrete and steel conb strnction and is surmounted by a glass 5 roof. The floor measures 90 by 4o i> metres, and will accomodate eight rerrnlatidn fencing mats. The pavilion f will seat several thousand spectators t comfortably. Offices are available for i federations and iuries as well as fc. lounges and dressing rooms for the i competitors. _ ‘ '_ r The Los Angles County, Museum, b where the Olympic fine arts competii films will be held, has 19 galleries with 3 4'|OR square metres of floor space 3 available for the Olympic exhibits. It 7 faces the fencing pavilion across a r large sunken garden in which thousl and® of rose plants will he in bloom during the games.

The Olympic auditorium, where the boxing, wrestling and weight-lifting events will he held, was completed in 1924. It contains 10.000 seats, and is midway between Olympic Park and the downtown business district The Rose Bowl Stadium m Pasadena has a seating capacity of 90.000 people. In it is being built a special wooden track, designed by the Union Cychste Internationale for the track cycling races. It is equipped with powerful lights which will illuminate the stadium during these events, all of which will be held at night. The Long Beach Marine Stadium is declared hr experts to he ideally fitted for the rowing events. It is adjacent to Alamitos Bay. which is available for practice purposes. Besides the boathouses, fudges’ stand, federation offices and club rooms for the crews, there will he stands for 15,000 spectators and room on the -shores of the rowing course for 50,000 more. The Los Angeles-Long Beach Harbour has been surveyed for the yachting races. The monotype course will be inside the breakwater, while the six and' weight-meter and star boat courses will be "outside. Excellent anchorage and other facilities are in readiness for the crews, and thousands of spectators will he able to view the races from the government breakwater and the neighbouring cliffs. Tlie Riviera Country Club, near Santa Monica, has three splendid polo fields which will be used for the equestrian sports. The fashionable club house, a fine golf course and other facilities will he at the disposal of Olympic participants. Excellent training grounds are available near the equestrian fields and the horses will he boused in new and fireproof istahles. The Universtiy of California at Los .Angeles has loaned its splendid new ©laving field for the preliminary field hockev matches. The university’s new gvmnasium is now being hult and the ] locker rooms and showers will he completed in time to permit their Use by the competing teams. The road cycling course, 62.14 miles in length, starts in a small mountain range north-west of Los' Angeles and continues to the Pacific Ocean, then follows the shore line boulevard to ‘•ianta Monica, where the finish will bp. Tbe course has been carefully selected to afford a variety of conditions and thousands of spectators can view this event from many vantage poi n ts. •
