Stanley Housner, of Linden, New Jersey, hopped off at 3.5 p.m. on Saturday on a projected flight to Europe in a Bellanca plane of only 220 horsepower, capable of about 100 miles an hour. He returned to the airport at 9.20 p.m., six hours after taking off. He was 300 miles out to sea when the artificial horizon failed. He announced that he plans to make a fresh start, possibly on Tuesday. Little is known of Housner. He holds a limited private license, which is the lowest grade available. He is a native of Poland.
