POPPY DAY APPEAL

Walsh (Eltham) £l6 10s, Manutahi School £1 16s, Mokoia School 17s, Hawera sales of poppies by the Women’s National Reserve £SB 3s 9d, additional Hawera sales by executive members and tne balance af Anzac Day collection handed in by Rev. E. S. Emmitt after paying expenses £1 6s 9d. The cost of the poppies, which were made Iby unemployed ex-soldiers, amounted to £2O 12s 9d and a payment of £3 13s was made to Hawera, nnemploved ex-soldiers for reconditioning work. Other expenses in connection with the appeal amounted to 5s lOd (postages) leaving a net balance of £9l 17s 7d? This sum is £2 13s lOd in excess of the net amount collected last year. Satisfaction at the excellent public response to the appeal and appreciation of -the activities of the street sellers and country canvassers were expressed by members. The appeal in North Taranaki resulted in a sum exceeding £SOO being raised, compared with £484 last year. When announcing the figures at the Anzac Day tea in New Plymouth, Captain F. Hartnell said it was remarkable that there should be an increase in the amount raised this year in view of the depression. . . Approximately £7O was received through the sale of poppies in Stratford and district. Of this, a little over £26 was produced .in the town.
