“WOOL WEEK” APPEAL

HON. It. MASTERS’ RECOMMENDATION.

PATRIOTIC ASPECT.

A recommendaion to all citizens to inspect the exhibits now on view in Wellington in connection with “Wool Week” was made by the Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Education, in speaking over the air from 2YA on Thursday evening. “I will not urge you to buy woollen goods in preference to goods of cotton, silk, or other materials, because that must be left to your individual taste and requirements, but I can assux-e people that they cannot fail to be impressed by the wide range and excellent quality of the goods now on ex-, hibition,” said the Minister. “I urge everybody to weigh the respective merits of the materials carefully. In particular one must weigh the points of view of health, durability, quality anil price, and thus estimate what is to be gained by wearing -woollen gai-ments.” Mr Masters added that the exhibits showed that New Zealand manufacturers could compete on a quality basis with overseas mills, and woollen goods could be produced in texture as fine and light as commodities manufactured from competitive materials. The Minister remarked also that, apart from the utility aspect there were patriotic reasons for consideration for wool. Industry would be stimulated and more New Zealanders would be employed.
