Mr Taitc To Tomo, At.P. (Western Maori electorate,), arrives in Hawera to-night. He will stay at Okaiawa over the week-end.

The resignation of Air S. Vickers from the council of the Taranaki Ckamber of Commerce was accepted with regret at a meeting of the council last night. Mr Vickers was formerly representative of the Farmers’ Union on the council.

Lieut.-CJcdonel I. T. Standish has been appointed adjutant and quarter-master-general at general headquarters of the New Zealand Forces, and Lieut.Colonel L. M. Inglis is removed from the resenvg of officers, promoted to colonel and appointed to command the Third New Zealand Infantry Brigade. A Press Association telegram from Welding ton states that these appointments' are announced in the Gazette.

Air William Foully, a former Superintendent of Police, died at his residence, Christchurch, on Tuesday in his 73rd year. Air Foully .retired from the Police Force when in charge of the Wanganui district in February, 1925 and since then had resided in Christchurch. He joined the force in September, 1881, was promoted to sergeant in May. 1901, to senior-sergeant in August, 1912, to inspector in Maroh, 1917, ami to superintendent in October, 1923 He was an efficient and popular officer a'JrT was widely respected in all the districts in which he was stationed. He was a. constable in Invercargill for some rears, afterwards' being transferred to Roxburgh, Central Otago, as constable in charge of the district. Later lie was stationed at Ashburton as sergeant, and Christchurch as senior-sergeant, On being promoted to the rank of subiinspector he was stationed first at Dunedin and then at New Plymouth. From Near Fly men th tie was transferred to Invercargill a,si inspector, and later to V la.nganHii, where lie wais promoted to the, rank of superintendent. He leaves it widow and family, one of whom is Mr T. B. Fouhy, Opunake.
