CANTERBURY PRODUCE. POTATO MARKET DULL. CHRISTCHURCH, .Tunc 19. The potato market show’s no sign of recovery. The tendency’ is still downward. Orders from the north are few in number and small. July-August whites are quoted at 50s f.0.b., prompt, being at the same figure. Alignst-Scp-tember deliveries have been quoted at £2 12s Gd and Dakotas at £2 7s fid f.o.b. for prompts. Fowl wheat is unchanged and is quoted at 5s ltd f.o.b. for prompt and 5s 3d for July-December delivery. Very little milling wheat is to be obtained from farmers. Most of the millers have fair supplies and inquiry is not animated. Quotations are 5s 5d and the on-trucks market is firm.
Onions took a sudden spurt into prominence during the week on account principally of the delayed arrival of an Australian ship with cargo for Auckland. This created a temporary demand for southern onions and as high as £7 on trucks w T as paid for occasional lots. However, the movement was short- lived and the price relapsed today to £4 10s on trucks, with few inquiries.
