EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) There was a large attendance at the euchre party held last Tuesday evening and a very pleasant evening was spent, there being quite a number of young people present for the dance. Mrs J. Reid, senr.. Miss E. Reid and Miss R, Huekstep, each with 11 games, played off for the first and second prizes, which resulted in Mrs Reid winning, with Miss Reid second.The men’s first prize was won by Mr A. Wolfe with 12. V games, after a draw with Mr D. Campbell, who- took the second prize. The music for the dance was supplied by Miss M. Guy, while Mr Laison played several extras. Mr T. Guy was M.C. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the School Committee was held on Thursday. There were present: Messrs A. J. Prestidge (chairman), S. Cleaver, G. Sherwood, L. Preece and IV. T. Seed (secretary). Accounts to- tlie amount of £5 10s 9d were passed for payment. The committee resolved to write to Mr Bond, thanking him for the donation of a football for the 1931 season. Mr L. Precce’s action was endorsed in arranging for delivery to l the school of three cords of dry rata firewood. Mr, L. Preece was accorded a vote of thanks for liis trouble in arranging transport bus for the children on Duthie Road. Mr Prestidge offered to take a batch of pupils to the dental clinic at Eltham on Monday afternoon. Mr Cleaver also expressed his willingness to take- a ear load in on Monday morning. On a motion it was decided to insure lorry for transport for children to football matches. Mr Geo. Preece’s application for permission to drain part of the school paddock creek for an outlet was granted. The secretary was instructed to wait on the Hawera Unemployment Committee. with reference to l the cutting •of the boxthorn hedge. The committee of the South Taranaki Primary Schools Sports Association are to be asked to present the Bennett and Sutton Shield on Wednesday, June 17. —Mr Seed reported that the ladies were arranging a ball to be held on June 12, any profits to go to the school funds. Tho headmaster reported: The present. roll is 97, showing an increase of three over the roll for last term. Regular attendance is well maintained. The average for last term was 86.6 out- of an average roll of 91.9. The running of the bus on Duthie Road has improved the attendance from that end. The school was closed on Tune 3 for the King’s Birthday. The school turn for attendance at the Eltham dental clinic has come round and already nine cases have been treated. On June 3 two Rugby seven-a-*ide teams and a girls’ basketball team travelled to Manaia to participate in the competitions there. Tlie teams were conveyed by Messrs L. Preece and G. Keighley.
