MOLLISON’S PLANE WRECKED
MACHINE OVERLOADED. MISHAP AT DARWIN. (United »iss Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) DARWIN, Juno 7. The airman, Mr. J. A. Mollison arrived at Darwin in preparation lor his fiio-ht from Australia to England. V hen taking off for England shortly after midnight he rose well but found the piano was overloaded and in coming down he struck a fence at the end of the aerodrome. Mollison jumped or fell out .before the plane actually crashed and is uninjured. The under-carriage, wings, propellor and tail are in crumpled rums and damaged beyond repair. Mr Mollison intended to attempt to break the record for the flight by reaching England in 7 days and returning in similar time. HOPES OF FRESH START. Received 10.30 a.m.. to-day. DARWIN, June 8. Molliison’s ’plane has been dismantled for the shipment to Sydney of the engine, instrument board wheels, redder and l a part of the fuselage The rest was burnt on the ground. He bones to make a fresh start from SydneThe accident points to the imperative need of enlarging the Darwin aeiodrome.
