Another remarkable instance of the leniency of the French courts was provided at the Seine Assizes where a nurse, Jeanne Sanson, was sentenced to two years imprisonment for pouring boiling oil over her sleeping liuisband who died in agony. She was given the benefit of the First Offender Act and as a result goes free. . She declared that her husband had ill treated her for 20 years.
