Refusing to sing ‘‘God Save the King,” delegates to tine recently organised Farmers’ Unity League, which recently' launched a “secession” movement at Wilkie, Saskatchewan, and Communistic organisers from Mundare, Alllberta, were pelted with rotten, eggs at Willllingdon, Alberta, ancfj two rallies started in the Ukrainian Temple broke up in disorder. - Carl Axe Ison, of Ringville, president of the Farmers’ Unity League, and two “Red”, leaders from Mundare, known as Karipluck and Novalcowsky, received rough treatment at the hands of a hostile crowd. Karpluck was attacked at the railway! station by infuriated anti-Communistic farmers, and severely beaten about the head and face.

The. Farmers’ Unity League was organised throughout the western provinces early in December, 1930, an inaugural convention being held in 'Winnipeg.. followed by meetings in Saskatoon and Edmonton. A self-styled radical league, its charter demands guaranteed Government income to farmers of not less* than 1000 dollars a vear. to be raised out of the pi-ofit.s of banks, mortgage firms, implement manufacturers, etc. Tt also urges resistance to sher iIF and foreclosure sales; free medical service for farmers, and State financing of all educational institutions.
