UNEMPLOYMENT FIGURES

DECREASE IN PAST WEEK. (By Telegraph— Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Feb. IS. The unemployment figures for the week ended February 9, which were announced yesterday by the Minister of Labour, Hon. S. G. Smith, show a decrease of 554 when compared with the returns for the preceding seven days.

The total number of unemployed is given as 17,002, as gainst 17,556 for the previous week. The figures for the main centre® are:

Invercargill.—With dependants, 269; without dependants. 135. Total, 404 (309).
