A plan to place unemployed youths and young men on the land will he shortly be placed before tlu* Co\ eminent in New South \\ ales. The Lord Mayor. Dr. Arthur, M.L.A., and the Rev. R. B. S. Hammond, among others, have been mncernecl about the welfare of the thousands of unemployed young men, who are searching for occupations. 'Llie sponsors of the movement plan to establish camps in the country, where several thousand youths may be taught rural occupations. Those who cannot obtain employment will remain in the camps, which every effort wih he made to make sdif-mipporting.
In reply to a deputation, the Minister for Education, who is acting in conjunction with the Minister for Agriculture in this matter, said that th>. Government had already taken steps to provide employment- and accommidation for thousands of young men Farms under the charge of the Minister for Agrieuluture throughout the State would be made available lor their accommodation. At a meting last week it was decided to ask the Government for every facility to assist the project. Farmers will be approached and asked to take at least one hoy into their -service. Farmers will also he asked In make available small areas of ilicir land for occupation by communities of unemployed youths, instructors will he supplied, and the boys will obtain employment n„ it becomes available on sheep farms and agricultural settlements. . The promoters of the project feel certain that it would not cost the Government more than jche |u'esent system of doles; and that the costwould decline as the boys became expert in farm work.
