FAMILY CO-OPERATION
A fine example is given on a big farm in New Boutli Wales of a scheme of close co-operation among mem hers of a family. It is one that might give suggestions to many a farmer with a view to stimulating interest by sons
itt the work oi the farm. Of this vheiue nil exchange says: •The lirm of J. B. Holt and Sons i* indeed an eilective combination, working the farm as a business undertaking, under the skilled guidance ot the senior partner. Each of the sons uas his own interest clearly defined. He is given charge of a special department, and is made responsible for u. jay one working m sympatny wuii toe others various forms ot farm work c.au oe carried out at the same time. Uverhead charges are reduced, nothing i> wasted, one set of buildings and one set ot implements and horses serve th common business, and where such eo-uperation is practised in the ease of illness or holiday nothing on the farm need suffer in consequence. This prudent form of family farming, vvnere each member is given an interest instead of merely a working wage, is worthy of emulation by others similarly placed. There are few who could spend a uuy m Myrtleoank with Messrs. Holt without gaining useful knowledge on the subject of pasture lands, and arming at the conviction that the iV'ater Supply Commissioners possess clients in taese settlers who, by ‘‘percept and example,’’ are able to do more- for irrigation than many lecture and pamphlets issued by paid experts can ever do. Nor should it be forgotten that these settlers are not locally trained. They came from the old country with valuable knowledge, gained there and the capacity to apply 1 il to advantage here." ]
