No. 5 SC TIE AIE OPERATING. During thr- week work was found in Hawera for 17 men under the Unom ployment Board's- No. 5 relief -scheme ii'ini a considerable number were able to draw a. few days’ wages this morning. Twenty men 1 were provided with four days’ work, fourteen with three days r work, four with two days’ and nine with one day’s work, it is hoped that employment will he found for a greater number next week.

The Unemployment Committee received a further grant of £SO this morning under the No. 2 scheme, by which up to 7s is paid as subsidy on wages, bringing the total Hawera allocation up to £SOO. A fair amount of work is still being offered under the No. 2 scheme, but the majority of the unemployed will be absorbed under the No. 5 scheme.
