METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL
RECOGNITION OF EFFOBTS
The excellent service giveu to tlie work of the Methodist Sunday School in Hawera by Mr. G. E. Furness for several years was fittingly recognised yesterday evening when a gathering of church people was held in the Bible Class room and presentations made to Mr. and Mrs. Furness. Miss Joan Pinsen spoke for the school children, stressing: the excellent training given to them by Mr. Furness, and expressing their cordial appreciation of liis good work. . Mrs. Boncher voiced the appreciation of the Women’s Guild and 1 Missionary auxiliary and a presentation was made of some handsome chinawam Mr. Fox stressed the great assistance given" to the choir for several years and wished Mr. and Mrs. Furness the greatest good fortune in tlie future. Itev. E. S. Emrnitt expressed hearty noreciation on behalf of the churchpeople. A further presentation was then made of a Methodist tune and hv mil book handsomely bound. Mr. Furness replied in a happy •speech in which he said that the work bad been a real pleasure to him at all times and expressed the hope that the • future would hold steady progress for dm church and' sohodl. Advantage was also taken to send Greetings and l good wishes to Mr. Norman Kenyon, who has given yoeman service as Sunday school teacher and secretary and church officer. Mr. Emmitt emphasised the great help given hv Mr Kenyon who lias removed to Palmerston "North and whose place would be hard to fill. He said -that a prosont had boon sont to Mr. Jvonyon as an earnest of tho appreciation felt l)v the people of tlie church: and school. The popularity of tlie function wrA shown hv the fact that the Bible Class room was filled with members and friends and much enthusiasm was shown All the. speakers stressed the deep regret felt at the departure of such useful officers of the church.
