ON MOUNT EGMONT
alpine CLUB TOURI. A PERFECT DAY. Conditions that could hardly have been better, with warm sunshine and tlio tracks and snow near the top in capital order, prevailed yesterday on E'gmont when a number of small parties of members of the Mt. Eigmont Alpine Club climbed from the Dawson Falk Hostel, to Fantham Peak and to the summit. “It was easily the best we have l ad this -season.” said Mr. .T. W. Palmer to a “Star” representative. The visibility was well-nigh perfect and the Southern Alps could be clearly seen. There, were in all about 37 members and visitors on the slope® and of these 21 reached 1 the top. Tho latter portion of the journey was facilitated very much bv the steps cut on the previous dav by Mr. L. Wills, a Dawson Falls guide and, as a result, the times registered were pretty good. The Syme Hut was found in excellent order and some of the energetic members did excavation work at the south end in preparation for building extension which is projected. Those who reached the top were in small parties —Mr. D. C. Ryan with five members; Mr. B. Haybittle and six others; one climber solo; Mr. J. W. Velvin and Son and Rev. C-. W. Dun crumb, of Timaru. Altogether the, various partms had a wonderful time and picnicking in the open on tho slopes was very popular.
