One of the most popular of the functions hold in the district by members of the W.D.F.U. is the garden party arranged each year on Labour Day by the Okaiawa branch. It is always well attended and yesterday’s party was pne of the best yet held by the branch. There was a gathering that included visitors from Manaia, Hawera, Matapu, Mangatoki and Awatuna. The officials responsible for the organisation, were: Mrs D. M. Cameron (president), Mrs J. Shearer (vice-president), Miss Edna Washer (hon. secretary), and Mesdames H. Rudkin, G. Good. E. .T. Booth, W. .T. Oldfield, E. J. Betts. Mack. H. Cameron and A. Lees (committee). They were assisted by Mesdames W. Symc, Stevens and Williams, of the Hawera branch.
The gardens were looking very pretty with the flowering shrubs, azaleas, wisteria, soumarsh. in full bloom, and down below on the pond a fine array of water lilies, while the stately native trees formed a marked contrast. As the guests wanuered through the garaen they listened to the strains of the Ha-, wera Municipal Band, under Band- j master H. C. A. Fox. who played a series of much appreciated selections that sounded particularly well in such pleasant surroundings. During the afternoon various games wore enjoyed—tennis and croquet and competitions were held, the results of which were as follow*: Hat trimming (men), Mr H. C. A.
