ELTHAM CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING HELD
The Eltham Amateur Athletic. Club held its anual meeting last evening. There was a good attendance of members, over which Mr R. E. Thomas (president) presided. The following renort was .read, and adopted: The ■ chib was formed, at a meeting held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on April 26, 1920, when 12 members were enrolled. At the end of the season the membership stood at 32 —all financial. The club was also affiliated with the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. A strong committee was formed, and during the season. 13 committee meetings were held. Apart from these, considerable work was done at the park for the sports meetings, and the success of the sports is undoubtedly due to the good work * done by your committee. During the season seven evening
meetings wore held, competitors from Ha worn and Stratford also taking part. The points prizes (all cups) were won as follow -. Cycling, E. Tinier and N. Newlove. 17 points, each; field events. J. Whiting and R. McWiJllam. - 9 points each; sprints, M. Prince, 201points; distance, S. Clarke, 13 points; walking, B. Campbell. On February 13 a very successful afternoon meeting of 17 events', including running, cycling, walking, dancing and javelin throwing, was jheld, and was well patronised by the public, the not- proceeds being £5 8s 3. The Eltham Amateur Athletic Club committee is very grateful to those persons who donated the prizes for this meeting and to the Borough Council for assistance in the preparation of the sports tracks. 'The Eltham Club was well represented at the Taranaki championship meeting, Mr E. Tinier winning the mile cycling championship. On Monday, May o, a very successful social and dance was held and the handsome challenge cups were presented to the .season’s points winners. The club is sneciallv grateful to M essrs A. Coleman and J. Petrie-' for donating cups for walking and cycling. The committee has also been very fortunate in having tlfe services of. Mr Cla pliant, of Hawera., as handicapper and adviser to the club. Valuable assistance was also rendered by the secretaries. Messrs D. Gower and R. McWilliam, whom the committee are unfortunate in losing, and by Mr A. E. Gilliver as delegate to the Wanganui conference. The committee have to thank the Press for publishing handicaps and results. The committee also wish to thank Mr W. J. Tristram for the use of his motor mower to prepare the grounds. -
The balance-sheet revealed that the sum of £65 3s 7d was received during the year and the expenditure was £62 12s 9d, leaving a credit, balance of £2 9s lOd.
The following officers were elected: Patron. Sir Walter Carncross; president. Mr C. A. Wilkinson. M.P. ■ sixteen vice-presidents were also elected : chairman. Mr A. ,T. Whiting; secretary, Mr H. Murray (pro torn); treasurer. Mr R. E. Thomas: manaeromont committee, Messrs Whiting. Ka«r>or, Walsh. Thomas. Ware. Bennett, - Murray. Johnson, Bates, Prince, Rye and McWilliam. The membership fee was fixed at 5s f or seniors and 2s 6d for juniors. It was decided to arrange a qonfer°uce with the Stratford and Hawera Clubs in connection with the coming season’s .sports nV'otings.
