RESHAPING OF EUROPE
GERMANY’S AMBITIONS. PAULS PRESS WARNING. I United Press Association —By liJeciriu Telegraph f e/opynghtj. PARIS, Aug. 26. French election speeches in their references to foreign policy are notably cpiieter in tone, but tliis is not reflected in the Paris Press. The Petit Journal, one of the most moderate, warns the French people that the German demand for the reshaping of the map of Europe to Germany's advantage cannot be achieved except by force. ‘ ‘ Those desiring a revision of the treaty' desire war, but Germany at present is not ready' to force the demand for revision; it may be 10 or 12 years before the clash becomes imminent," says the paper. It is significant that Dr Curtius, the German f oreign Minister, in his initial speech, championed Dr. Stresemann's policy' of international understanding with courage. Even Herr Treviranus, who recently declared a revision of the eastern frontier was urgent, has now climbed down, admitting that the subject could not at present be raised. Several Paris newspapers welcome the I‘aet that some leading German publicists have come into the open with demands for treaty revision, "as they are calculated to convince the waverers of the real underlying motives of the German policy."
