GRAND THEATRE, RAWER A. ‘‘FASHIONS TN LOVE" —TO-NIGHT An excellent change of programme will be presented! at the 'Grand 'Theatre, Hawcra, for a season of two nights and one matinee commencing this evening, the feature attraction being the Paramount picture “Fashions' in Love ’ ’ starring the ever-popular Adolphe Menjou. In “Fashions in Love” Menjou gives one of his best, performances to date and hd is supported by a. strong cast. A tine programme of short subjects will also be presented and iwill include a. topical and oversea, news, a Bray variety, “The Iron Derby,” and a. Krazy Kat Cartoon. The programme, will be presented at the matinee to bo held at the Grand Theatre to-morrow (Thursday), and finally in the evening. TOWN HALL, PATE A. (WEDNESDAY. THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. The William- Fox Movietone Follies of 1929, the million dollar musical comedy, first Follies ever produced in motion pictures, is distinctively a screen production, although it follows in a general way the famous revues of Broadway. Thousands of dollars were spent on •the production of numbers for the Fox Movietone Follies that later were discarded because* they did not fit the definite pattern conceived by Mr Fox. The final result more than justifies the vast expenditure o'f time, thought, labour and money. Fox Movietone Follies will be the attraction at Pate a on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
MAN AT A TALKIES THURSDAY. FRIDAY' AND SATURDAY. '“Paris,” which comes to the Mau.ria Theatre this week, not only -brings Irene, ©ordoni, the French favourite, to the screen for the first, time, but also marks the initial appearance on the talking picture sheet for her leading man, Jack Buchanan. Buchanan is- the idol of the British musical comedy stage. He has also been twice starred in New York in Chariot's- Revue. He wasi chosen to play opposite Miss 80-rdoni because the role is that of anl English musical favourite, and Buchanan is the outstanding star in that field. He is, in fact, the perfect type for the role. '“•Paris” is the screen version of Miss Bordoni’s latest and greatest stage success. It is* a First National and Vitaphone all-dialogue picture with singing an ddanieing, and- presents the French star in a typical Bordoni role — that of a French stage star. 'The score of the production is fairly overflowing with melody. Among the outstanding numbers are such tinkling and tuneful creations -as “Miss- Wanderfill,’' “My Lover, Master of My Heart,” “Somebody Mighty Like You” and “I Wonder what is reallv on His Mind.”
