CHARGES OF THEFT

SUM OF £328 INVOLVED. NORMANBY TOWN BOARD CLERK In the Hawera Police Court this morning, before Mr. R. S. Sage, J.P., Donald Alexander Stewart, clerk to the Norman by Town Board, was charged with the theft of £lB 18s 9d in his possession as clerk of the board. In asking for a remand to September 24, Detective Kearney said that other charges were pending involving a total of £328. Mr. L. A. Taylor appeared for accused and consented to the remand, stating that the charges were related to faulty book-keeping and that his client was anxious to help the police and the Audit Department in fixing the total of the defalcations. The remand was granted, bail being allowed in one surety of £IOO and in self for £IOO.
