PRIMARY SCHOOLS RUGBY
TAB AN Alyl BOYS WIN. HOiBOWH ENUAPOLTiCL A SSED. Conditions could scarcely be bettered iwhen the first quadrangular primary schools Kugby tournament was commenced on the Jiutt Recreation Ground on Saturday. The districts represented were TaranaJd, Rangitikei, Horowhenua andi Tlutt Valley. The ground was in perfect order, a light breeze blew diagonally across the field, -and the light was good. In the Taranaki-Horowhenua match there was only one team in it, and that team was Taranaki, (states the '“Dominion”). iHorowhenua never lost heart but it was quite unable to cope with the solid forwards, sharp passing backs, plus the hurdling of Tito. This player would! do well to get out cif that' habit, a® he must inevitably have a nasty fall if he persists in it. The score ovas 34 to nil in favour of Taranaki. The teams were:— ; Horowhenua. —Young, Coley, Tama- ! liana, Bills, Hunter, Roach, Better, HudI son, Goldsmith, Coombe, Gilniour. Piper, Lee, Cummerfield. Taranaki. —McDowell, Tubby, Robinson, Wan, Tito, Grey, Sullivan, Rich-, aras, Lilley, Topliss, Fenton, Eagaar, Koefcd, Butler, Aitken. „ Except ‘for isolated moments, when it got close to Taranaki’s goal line, though it never looked like scoring. Ilo.’owhenua was quite outclassed: both backs andi forwards nearly always hooked the ball, the half got it away l .cleanly; andi then the backs swept v down field' at fast, pac-e. Always when he got the ball Tito made considerable ground, and the four trios he scored' were splendid displays of straight, hard running. Sound tackling would certainly have brounght him down, because he went straight through the bunch, but sound tackling was too often absent. Nor was Horowhenua always accurate in its lino kicking, and too often big gaps were, left in its defence. But Tarjanaki was altogether tiejo solid a proposition, and it would have taken a much heavier team than Horowhenua on the day to have defeated' it. Its forwards were always following and had Horowhenua very much bustled. It was' very easy for. a brilliant back division to indulge in fireworks behind such a pack. The scorers for Taranaki were Robinson (2), Tito (4), Richards (2), Airken converted 2, Richard's 2, Eagaar 1.

fR ANGTTIKEI BEATS IHUTT. The. Hutt Valley representatives h-ad so frequently proved their worth m nrr.tdies in the Wellington and Wuirarapa districts that it was fully expected they would make things hard for Rangitikoi. By dint, however, of superior play Bangitikei won by fl points to 3.
